Nick Cannon in Jamaica

cannon

KINGSTON, Jamaica — American actor, rapper and record producer Nick Cannon is on his first visit to Jamaica, which he says is due to a new project with artiste Kreesha Turner.

Cannon, who was a guest at the Jamaica Observer Monday Exchange, said that while it would be good to sign other local artistes he has to get his “first Jamaican artiste popping” before he decides to sign others.

Turner, a former Wolmer’s High School student, is promoting her music as she tries to tap into the local dancehall industry.

She was recently signed as the first Jamaican artiste to Cannon’s Ncredible Records.

The Rangers, The New Boys and Four Account are among acts signed to the label.

Having listened to some Jamaican music Cannon says he likes Popcaan’s ‘Everything Nice’ and Demarco’s ‘Puppy tail’.

Asked about his relationship with his children’s mother, Mariah Carey, Cannon replied, “it’s family”.

The entertainer noted that for him he’s a father first and he tries to strike a balance between work and family.

VP in legal battle

Patricia Chin

Patricia  Chin

CLIVE Chin – son of late VP Records owner Vincent Chin — has filed a lawsuit against his step-mother, Patricia, over the ownership of songs he wrote.

According to an article posted on the New York Post website, Chin, 60, filed the federal lawsuit in Brooklyn, New York.

Chin is contenting that his late father’s Queens-based VP Music Group has been licensing more than 1,100 songs, written by him and recorded by artistes, without permission.

He is seeking US$3 million from his stepmother and three music companies he claims knowingly tried to scam him.

Patricia claims the copyrights to the music were part of the “marital estate” left by her husband.

Clive Chin has worked with major players in the reggae/dancehall industry including the Wailers, Dennis Brown, Black Uhuru and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry.

His first major commercial success was Java, an international hit by Augustus Pablo. He also produced Pablo’s debut album, This is Augustos Pablo.

He had further local hits with Dennis Brown’s Cheater, and Junior Byles’ King of Babylon. Other hits include Carl Malcolm’s Miss Wire Waist and Fattie Bum Bum, which, with the help of Jonathan King, became a UK chart hit in 1975, reaching number 8.

Jamaica Carnival Road March 2014 Colourful Costumes And Excitement

>   OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Jamaica  Carnival Road March 2014  seemed to be  more  larger  than ever with  Colourful   costumes  and  thousands  of revellers and bystanders that  turned out  to party in  the streets of Kingston and St Andrew . The days  events started  at about 10 am from the corner  of Waterloo Road and West Kings House Road  with persons joining in from different locations around the Corporate Area. a fleet of motor bikes riders snow off  their stunt skills , which  filled the air  with lots  of excitement.

The turn out for the road march can be summed up in one word, spectacular, They  make their way down  West Kings House Road about 3 pm  lead by a large marching  Band  and well decorated  large brand  trucks and infectious soca music  that had everyone dancing up a storm ,

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This year, there was no rain threat, and the rays of the sun worked well with the costumes.

Some trucks had more excitement than others, with revellers moving from place to place in an attempt to find the best place to be. They then turn left down on Constance Spring Road

The police and security officials were out in numbers, ensuring revellers were not disturbed by persons who sought to hijack the proceedings.

Patrons without costumes still enjoyed the event by either staying at the extreme back of the parade or by flanking the sides of the trucks.

The Digicel truck was followed by a sizeable audience, and its DJ got strong responses from songs like Worst Behaviour by Skinny Fabulous and Live Mi Life by Machel Montano.

There was a fleer up of violence   at  a section of the New Kingston area  by some bystanders and gay people , it also happen at last year events . This time  some gay  men seems as if they use  a gully to get  behind  a well fence building staying at a far distance doing  dutty wine dance , a angry group  of people saw them and then a  exchange started  of stone missile  leaving a section of the crowd  to run for cover .

Police Personnel  had to intervene to bring back peace and order . apart from that the day was a lovely one everyone  enjoyed themselves to the max and looking forwards  to next year to do it all over again  .

Vybz Kartel sentenced to life in prison, to serve 35 years before parole

Vybz Kartel
KINGSTON, Jamaica:
Dancehall artiste, Vybz Kartel, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is to serve 35 years before he becomes eligible for parole.

He and the three other men convicted for Lizard’s murder were each given life sentences a short while ago by Justice Lennox Campbell.

Adidja Palmer – LIFE IN PRISON (35 years before eligible for parole)
Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell – LIFE IN PRISON (25 years before eligible for parole)
Kahira Jones – LIFE IN PRISON (25 years before eligible for parole)
Andre St John – LIFE IN PRISON (30 years before eligible for parole)

Justice Campbell handed down the sentences after hearing impassioned pleas for leniency from lawyers representing the men.

On March 13, after 65 days of trial, a jury returned a ten to one guilty verdict.

On that same day, a fourth co-accused, Shane Williams was freed by the jury.

The defence has indicated that it will be appealing the verdict.

It has cited discrepancies, inconsistencies, missing data, and mismanagement in the collection of evidence as well as the integrity of the evidence.

Kartel’s attorney, Tom Tavares-Finson says the defence has a fundamental issue with the decision of the trial judge to permit certain phone evidence, given the admission by the police that the instruments were being used after they were taken into their custody.

He says it is very significant that since the matter was heard, the Director of Public Prosecutions has ordered a change in the protocol as to how evidence is to be kept in the department.

According to the attorney, the police have also changed the protocol as to how telephones are to be kept.

Tavares-Finson said the Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn, has also asked prosecutor, Jeremy Taylor, to launch an investigation into the conduct of the investigators in the case.

“I am of the opinion that the department cannot investigate itself and any such investigation should be done by the Independent Commission of Investigations,” Tavares-Finson said.

Justin Bieber is reportedly negotiating a plea deal in his egg attack case.

Justin Bieber

When Justin Bieber allegedly chucked a pile of raw eggs at his neighbor’s house, the fancy Calabasas, Calif., home sustained $20,000 worth of damage — at least that’s what the Biebs’ neighbor has claimed in court . The amount of money at stake means the Biebs could be

liable for a felony should be found guilty. But if TMZ’s sources are correct, it’s more likely that the pop star-turned-budding vandal will get off the hook if he pays for the damage, agrees to some probation time and pleads no contest to a misdemeanor felony.

The L.A. County D.A. is looking to hammer out a plea deal with Bieber’s lawyer, Howard Weitzman, the site reports, and since the judge in the case is apparently hesitant to go for a felony over the egging, it seems more likely that he’ll accept the terms of the lesser charges

Pay up: Justin allegedly caused $20K in damage to his neighbour’s property .

Justin allegedly caused more than $20,000 in damage during the vicious egg attack in January.

According to TMZ, the entire front of the house needs to be re-plastered with Venetian plaster, which will cost around $15,000. An additional $5,000 is needed to to repair the entryway, including re-staining the doors.

The incident was caught on camera, and the neighbour can be heard shouting: ‘I can f***ing see you!’ as the footage shows the damage that was allegedly done by the star.

The Never Say Never hitmaker will appear in Florida court on May 5 to face charges of DUI, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license – all of which he has pleaded not guilty to.

Vybz Kartel Convicted Of Murder

Vybz-Kartel-pic

Adidja Azim Palmer better known as Vybz Kartel,  a Jamaican dancehall artist, songwriter and  a  businessman  and his three co-accused . Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones, André St John were all found guilty, for the murdering of  his former associate Clive “Lizard” Williams  while co-accused Shane Williams was acquitted of the murder.

The 11-member jury took just 2 hours in their deliberation before returning a 10:1 verdict. Presiding judge Lennox Campbell initially sent them back to deliberate further in hopes that they will reach a unanimous verdict. But the jury returned inside the court minutes later with said 10:1 deadlock.

The prosecution, headed by attorney Jeremy Taylor, took 46 days and 24 witnesses to build its case against the “Dancehall Hero” deejay. The Crown argued that Vybz Kartel, his protege Shawn “Storm” Campbell, friends Kahira Jones, André St John, and Shane Williams all participated in the beating death Clive “Lizard” Williams over two missing firearms belonging to the deejay.

The alleged murder took place on August 16, 2011 at a house on Swallowfield Road in Havendale believed to be owned by Vybz Kartel.  Clive Williams body has yet to be found

To help make their case, the prosecution introduced several damning evidences including text messages, voice notes, Blackberry Messenger messages and video footage.

The Crown also had the help of an informant who says he accompanied Clive Williams to the house in Havendale on the day of his disappearance. The star witness, Llamar Chow, says he escaped from the house after seeing his friend lifeless body on the floor.

He told the court that he saw one of the accused men with a building block in his hand.

The defense maintained that the entire case was fabricated by the police force with the help of the informant to secure a high profile conviction.

Police  arrested a male juror who attempted to bribe the foreman of the panel. News broke minutes before the afternoon sitting that a bribe attempt had been made .The foreman rejected the offer and made a report.

At the beginning of the afternoon session Justice Lennox Campbell summoned the prosecution, defence and DPP Paula Llewellyn to his chambers to discuss the matter ,the decision was made to continue the trial.

Justice Campbell told the jury to not find the dancehall artiste guilty based on the content of his lyrics. But focus solely on the evidence presented by the prosecution.

Vybz Kartel and his co-accused are facing life imprisonment for the murder.

Breaking News , Justin Bieber Arested For Drag Racing

Image Police say they arrested a bleary-eyed Bieber — smelling of alcohol — after officers saw him drag-racing before dawn on a palm-lined residential street, his yellow Lamborghini traveling at nearly twice the speed limit.  Justin later admitted smoking marijuana, drinking and taking a prescription medication, police say. Unlike previous dustups, this arrest has him facing potential jail time.    Bieber was charged with driving under the influence, driving with an expired license and resisting arrest without violence. His Miami-Dade County jail mug shot showed the singer smiling in a bright red inmate jumpsuit, his hair still stylishly coiffed. He was arrested with R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff, after police saw them racing two luxury vehicles down the street at 4:09 a.m., with two other vehicles apparently being used to block off the area.  Bieber was driving the Lamborghini and Sharieff was driving a Ferrari. Both cars were towed. Police say Bieber was clocked at 55 mph (88 kph) to 60 mph (96 kph) in a 30 mph (48 kph) zone near a high school, youth center, golf course, city firehouse and small apartment buildings Image According to the arrest report, Bieber “had slow deliberate movements” and appeared to be in a stupor when the officer ordered him to exit his vehicle. Bieber was arrested after repeatedly refusing to put his hands on his vehicle so the officer could pat him down to look for weapons, the report said. It says he cursed several times at the officer and demanded to know why he was being arrested. At one point, Bieber said to an officer: “What the f— did I do, why did you stop me?”  A few years ago  , Justin Bieber was a mop-haired heartthrob, clean cut and charming. But a series of troubling incidents have put his innocent image at risk, and none more so than his arrest on drunken-driving charges Thursday. ,  stars sometimes do a lot of publicity  stunt to get media  attention , Maybe  Justin  is playing around  , If this is so later down the road  all  of  that crap is going to bounce back on his career .
